The AFT is a five-event, gender- and age-normed assessment that became the Army's fitness test of record on 1 June 2025, replacing the ACFT. It measures strength, muscular endurance, power, and aerobic capacity relevant to combat readiness.
Marines complete two annual assessments: the PFT (pull-ups or push-up option, forearm plank, 3-mile run) and the CFT (Movement to Contact, Ammunition Can Lifts, Maneuver Under Fire). Scoring is age- and sex-normed with class categories (1st, 2nd, 3rd Class).
The PRT consists of a muscular endurance push-up event, a forearm plank, and a cardiorespiratory event (1.5-mile run or authorized alternate). Sailors are scored by age/sex and classified as Outstanding, Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Probationary, or Failure.
The PFRA measures cardiorespiratory fitness (2-mile run or 20-m HAMR), muscular strength (push-ups or hand-release push-ups), core endurance (sit-ups, cross-leg reverse crunches, or forearm plank), and body composition (waist-to-height ratio). Airmen must earn the minimum composite plus the minimum in every component.
Guardians complete Human Performance Assessments and participate in the Holistic Health Approach and Continuous Fitness Assessment. At least one annual assessment uses the 2-mile run when current policy requires it.
The Coast Guard Physical Readiness Program became fully operational on 1 July 2026. Standards are administered twice yearly for most Coast Guard members with defined events, age/sex categories, and medical-exemption processes.
ISHOT Military Academy is an independent educational preparation platform. Fitness standards can change and may vary by age, sex category used in official scoring, occupational specialty, component (Active / Reserve / National Guard), medical status, command policy, altitude, and authorized event option. Always confirm your official requirements with your recruiter, command, or the applicable military branch.
