Army Fitness Test

United States Army

AFTEffective 2025-06-015 events

The AFT is a five-event, gender- and age-normed assessment that became the Army's fitness test of record on 1 June 2025, replacing the ACFT. It measures strength, muscular endurance, power, and aerobic capacity relevant to combat readiness.

United States Marine Corps

PFT / CFT6 events

Marines complete two annual assessments: the PFT (pull-ups or push-up option, forearm plank, 3-mile run) and the CFT (Movement to Contact, Ammunition Can Lifts, Maneuver Under Fire). Scoring is age- and sex-normed with class categories (1st, 2nd, 3rd Class).

PRT3 events

The PRT consists of a muscular endurance push-up event, a forearm plank, and a cardiorespiratory event (1.5-mile run or authorized alternate). Sailors are scored by age/sex and classified as Outstanding, Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Probationary, or Failure.

PFRA4 events

The PFRA measures cardiorespiratory fitness (2-mile run or 20-m HAMR), muscular strength (push-ups or hand-release push-ups), core endurance (sit-ups, cross-leg reverse crunches, or forearm plank), and body composition (waist-to-height ratio). Airmen must earn the minimum composite plus the minimum in every component.

Human Performance Assessment

United States Space Force

HPA4 events

Guardians complete Human Performance Assessments and participate in the Holistic Health Approach and Continuous Fitness Assessment. At least one annual assessment uses the 2-mile run when current policy requires it.

United States Coast Guard

PFTEffective 2026-07-013 events

The Coast Guard Physical Readiness Program became fully operational on 1 July 2026. Standards are administered twice yearly for most Coast Guard members with defined events, age/sex categories, and medical-exemption processes.
